Lynn Morris is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Research and Innovation at the University of the Witwatersrand. She is an A-rated, internationally recognised scientist working to understand the antibody response to HIV and conducting validated end-point assays for HIV vaccine clinical trials. Lynn previously was interim Executive Director of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) leading the NICD through both the listeria outbreak of 2017/8 and the current COVID-19 pandemic. Lynn has served on national and international bodies including the New York-based Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise and the Poliomyelitis Research Foundation. Prof. Morris held joint appointments as a Research Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Wits, and Head of the HIV Virology Lab in the Centre for HIV & STIs at the National Health Laboratory Service. Lynn has published 270 journal articles and 11 book chapters. She is listed by the Web of Science as among the most highly cited researchers in HIV and Aids. Lynn is a member of Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS), the Royal Society of South Africa (FRSSA), The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and Honorary Senior Scientist at the Centre for the Aids Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA).
